Depending on the chassis configuration, the R740xd2 supports either up to 24 x 3.5” front drives or a mix of 16 x 3.5” and 8 x 2.5” drives, with an additional 2 x 3.5” or 2 x 2.5” drives at the rear. This flexibility makes it ideal for SDS, video storage, backup repositories, and archive workloads. Expansion is supported via PCIe Gen3 slots, with options for high-speed networking, GPUs, or advanced RAID cards, while iDRAC9 provides robust remote management and monitoring.
